Ways to Make Money Online

The first thing I'm going to talk about in regards to making money online is Transcription jobs. I think by this point I've tried almost every way I could find of making money and transcription seemed to be the most legitimate.

Transcriptionists must be able to type fast as they are paid by the hour and there is often a deadline on how fast the work must be completed. An audio file can be anywhere from half an hour - four hours long. You probably could get longer but since I can't type over 40/wpm...I never found out.

Some companies accept people who type around 40/wpm but there are very few. The majority ask for between 60/wpm - 80/wpm. Another must is good punctionation and good grammar. I have good grammar but for some reason, I've never been able to get semi-colons... I just can't wrap my mind around when to use them and when not to.

Most transcription jobs deal with transcribing market research focus groups, but there are others that deal with legal and medical so if you have experience in these fields then you have more chance.

Another thing you have to be good at is research. The reason for this is that you have to be able to quicky look up details or words you aren't sure about or don't know how to spell.

If you are not sure about how fast you type then I will include the best websites to check, you can also use them to pactice before you apply. If your speed isn't good enough, don't just go and apply anyway like I did - spend a few days practicing and take regular breaks because it makes you really tired.

https://www.keyhero.com/free-typing-test/ - This ones my favorite as you are typing famous quotes and excerts from shows and books, such as: Harry Potter and One tree Hill

http://www.typingtest.com/ - This is one that some employers get you to use to fill in your typing speed on the application forms.

Below is a list of websites where you can apply, not all of them may be hiring at the moment but they would keep your CV on file. Prepare for grammar and punctation tests as well as audio and typing on some.

http://careers.takenotetyping.com/ - Seems to be the best regarding reviews and how much they pay. If you decide to apply, take the practice tests first. I really struggled with the typing test - you have 90 seconds to quickly type up the paragraph that pops up. It's hard. But I thought I might get lucky and pass the actual test...I didn't.

http://waywithwords.net/transcription-jobs/ - I couldn't find much online about them but I have applied. You do 4 online tests first. A general grammar, a research test, a punctuation test and then an audio test. First time round I failed the punctuation but after 24 hours you can reapply (you get 3 tries), I passed the second time. Apart from punctuation, I found the tests to be easy. After you complete these you move on to the offline tests, 3 short audio files you have to transcribe - one from the Uk, on from the US and one from Australia. The last part of the offline tests is the proofreading test - proofreading a document full of errors. After they are sent away I'm not sure what happens but I have heard that you have to go through weeks of testing to get through.
